The „digital divide‟ refers to the difference between those with access to new technologies and those without. The digital divide concerns a fear that, along with new opportunities, digital technology brings with it new forms of social exclusion.

A “snapshot ” of some institutional equity scholarships involving seven universities and
an institutional study “Overcoming Student Hardship “ which presents the impact of
equity - based Scholarships on students financial disadvantage, rural disadvantage and
the digital divide.

Whether or not parents can see the potential learning value of media exposure, and what is called the digital divide are the main barriers to children’s media use, apart from television which is universal.

Does differential access to computer technology at home compound the educational disparities between rich and poor? Would a program of government provision of computers to secondary students reduce these disparities? The authors use administrative data on North Carolina public school students to corroborate earlier surveys which document broad racial and socioeconomic gaps in home computer access and use.

Are Indigenous learners destined to assume the same disadvantaged position in a new information society that they have been forced into in the past? Is information technology a solution to bridge this educational divide? This paper explores current educational positions on technology in education from the mainstream and analyses the lack of recognition of Indigenous people in this equation.

This project aimed to identify the barriers and needs of students to enable them to participate in
online delivery of vocational education, focussing on IT literacy, functional literacy and
information literacy.

The aim of this paper is to explore the on-going research on the possible effects of using mobile phones to support learning, especially as a way of creating access for the disadvantaged people. The paper defines mobile learning within the context of distance learning, but with the emphasis on the mobility of information communication technology devices that can be used to support or reach (mobile) learners anytime, anywhere.
