The National Centre's research program is informed by three themes: Aspiration, Mobility and Voice. This includes research on such topics as:

• post-compulsory education for students from low socioeconomic backgrounds

• higher education pathways, including second chance opportunities

• the interface between VET and higher education

• higher education and regional engagement

• higher education and students with disabilities.

Current and recent research projects include:

• Interventions early in school as a means to improve higher education outcomes for disadvantaged students (DEEWR)

• Mapping Aspirations and Achievement in Northern Adelaide (UniSA & DEEWR)

• Principles and Strategies for Widening Participation Partnerships in Higher Education (QUT, Griffith & DEEWR)

• The Rural Reconnect Project (The Thyne Reid Foundation)
